Water bill correction

Due to an accounting error, Waynesboro is sending out correction notices to people who received water bills that took into account the new, increased rates, prior to the Jan. 1, 2009 effective date.

Residents will receive credits to be applied to their next bill. Bills not yet paid will also include the correction on a future notice, and has extended the due date for affected bills.

In Dec. 2008, the Waynesboro City Council voted to raise water, sewer and garbage rates. Water rates went from $2.61 to $3.53 per 1,000 gallons used, sewer rates from $4.68 to $5.32 per 1,000 gallons used and trash rates by $2 to $14.50 monthly.

In a unanimous, 5-0 vote, the council raised water rates from $2.61 to $3.53 per 1,000 gallons used and sewer rates from $4.68 to $5.32 per 1,000 gallons used. Trash pickup rates will go up by $2 to $14.50 monthly. The new rates will apply to all accounts billed after Jan. 1.
