Winter weather advisory, Augusta County schools closed Tuesday

Update, 10:30 p.m.: NBC29 is reporting that Augusta County schools are closed for Tuesday, Feb. 3, and the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton is on a code blue for employees. The county continues to be under a winter weather advisory.

Waynesboro and Staunton have both received two inches of snow, while in Fishersville, there has been 2.7 inches of snow, according to NBC29.

Snow plows were on Interstate 64 on Afton Mountain, as snow began to accumulate on the roads earlier this evening and temperatures were hovering around 32. The heavier snows have been falling from Afton Mountain and west into Augusta County. The winter weather advisory extends, also, into Rockingham, Page and Shenandoah counties.

VDOT is reporting minor conditions along I-64 in Augusta County, and clear conditions in the county along I-81. It reports minor conditions along the county’s primary roads, with secondary roads in moderate condition. Minor conditions, according to VDOT, mean that there is bare pavement except for isolated spots of snow, ice or slush, while moderate conditions mean there is snow or ice on major portions of the roadway and advises the use of snow tires or chains.
