Winter weather advisory in effect for Augusta County
The balmy-like temperatures today (60 degrees on Jan. 5?) are expected to cool off this evening as a storm system moves in and brings a mix of rain, freezing rain and sleet, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory for areas in Augusta County above 1,000 feet.
Temperatures according to Accuweather.com are expected to fall to 31, with the freezing rain likely beginning in the pre-dawn hours, making things tricky for school officials who will have to decide whether to delay or close schools should the storm materialize.
VDOT has its own storm team in place, issuing its own advisory earlier today while saying it was pre-treating some main Augusta County arteries, including Route 11, Route 262 and Route 250 from the Nelson County line to Route 151 at the bottom of Afton Mountain.
Waynesboro went through its annual snow removal exercise in November.

Oh, and just so you know, there’s the possibility of a wintry mix coming by Saturday, but you know what an exact science weather predicting is, don’t you? In any case, be safe regardless of the weather.
