Palin calms the GOP waters

Sarah Palin proved much more effective in Thursday’s vice presidential debate than she has in recent television interviews with anchors.

That being said, Palin still had the look of a candidate who was scripted, rehearsed and not answering all the questions she was asked.

She invoked energy independence many times more than she needed to.

By now, it’s evident Palin is much more at ease speaking to a crowd or standing at a podium than being grilled by television anchors.

For the sake of the Republican ticket, Palin ought to be interviewed from now on by more friendly interrogators such as the conservative voices at Fox News.

Joe Biden may have had made some mistakes, but his performance was more dominant and better on debate performance than Palin.

He had a command of the issues, which a 35-year U.S. Senate veteran ought to have.

Biden was especially strong in closing, when he suggested that Republican nominee John McCain was no maverick and ticked off a series of McCain votes for George Bush budgets and support for the Iraq war.

On a positive note for both candidates, they resisted the temptation to be nasty and remained civil to each other throughout the 90 minutes.
