Best Cheerleaders a No-Brainer
It’s only the first day of the tournament and I’ve only watched one half of a game, but there is absolutely no doubt which school has the best cheerleaders. FSU is clearly in a league of its own.
It’s been that way for the last two years I’ve covered the tourney and I don’t expect it to change anytime soon.
OK, so I’m gonna stop typing now before I say anything that might get me in trouble.
Maybe I’ll report later on the tournament’s worst cheerleaders. I’m pretty sure on that selection. Wait a sec, that could probably get me in trouble, too. I’ll give you a hint: Former UNC coach Matt Dougherty once agreed with me.

Wake the Great
Wake Forest trails 33-30 with about 15 minutes left in the second half of its first-round game against FSU. The Demon Deacons certainly haven’t played their best ball so far, but it’s dawned on Jerry Ratcliffe and I that Wake is gonna be pretty damn good next year.
The Demon Deacons return just about everybody and have two of the top recruits in the country coming in.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Wake was picked within the top four next season. I really like their squad.

Separated at birth?
Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton and Virginia assistant coach Bill Courtney could be long, lost brothers. I think Courtney is in better shape, though. I meant to tell him at practice yesterday that it looked like had had dropped a few lbs.
One of the most entertaining moments for reporters this season came when we were allowed to attend an early-season practice. Virginia was short on players, so Courtney suited up and tried to defend Sean Singletary. Singletary practically broke Courtney’s ankles with one cross-over dribble!
