I just asked Virginia coach Tony Bennett about the health of his team. Akil Mitchell and Jontel Evans appeared to have some minor injuries following the win over N.C. State on Saturday.
This is what Bennett, whose team hosts Clemson on Tuesday night, had to say:
“I think you’re at that stage of the season Whitey when guys are going to feel some bumps and bruises and some inflammation and certain things…Assane [Sene] gets his cast off on Wednesday on a side note—so that will be interesting to see how that goes. They’ll get a picture of it. I don’t know if we’ll get much direction there.
“But besides Assane, for the most part, besides some bumps and bruises, as I mentioned, we’re OK. I think you’re getting to that point where there are a lot of games in a short amount of time. Hopefully we’ll stay healthy, but nothing major [right now].“i
Gottfried complains
N.C. State coach Mark Gottfried believes there should have been a foul call in the final seconds of his team’s loss to Virginia. Gottfried believes “contact” was created by Jontel Evans on Lorenzo Brown’s game-winning 3-point attempt.
Speaking on the ACC teleconference this morning, Gottfried said: “They did a nice job defending it, but I was of the opinion that we also could have found ourselves on the foul line as well.“
