With the ACC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament just right around the corner, the Virginia women’s lacrosse team really needs a win tonight when it hosts Virginia Tech at Klockner Stadium.
The Wahoos are ranked No. 11 in the country—but they have just a 7-5 record and are winless in the ACC at 0-4.
“Our backs are against the wall in terms of—never before have we been 0-4 in the ACC,“ Virginia coach Julie Myers told me this morning. “0-5 would be a very scary, very sad, sad day.
“Our backs are against the wall. We need to beat Tech—not only to get another win, but to get an ACC win and beat another quality opponent. For lots of reasons this game is a very important game. It certainly has our attention.“
Myers wasn’t overly pleased with her team’s 19-18 win at Harvard on Saturday.
“We moved the ball well and so many kids were able to score—I thought we did a nice job shooting. It turns out, thank God because if you need 19 goals…
“It definitely got hairy there. I think we significantly bent as a team, but we didn’t break, which was nice. When they tied it up, our attackers went down and scored two [goals] pretty quick. It was nice to see our team bail each other out. Tons of mistakes were being made all over the field—tons of turnovers at horrible times, but our team found a way to win a game against a pretty talented Harvard team.“
I’ll be out at Klockner tonight. I’ll have tweets, video updates and all my usual stuff—so stay tuned right here.
Go Bockers!
(Have I mentioned that we clinched a playoff spot for the first time in a gazillion years?)
