No Lithuania
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—I’ve just learned that Virginia big man Lars Mikalauskas did not make the trip down here.
The Lithuanian has been plagued by shoulder problems all season.
Apparently, he is getting a second opinion as to whether or not he should have surgery (and is also a little under the weather). If I were him, I’d have the surgery and go for the medical redshirt, though Virginia coach Dave Leitao probably isn’t too fond of that option.
For those wondering if Tunji Soroye would ever be a candidate for a redshirt—I would highly doubt it. With three incoming recruits on board for 2008, UVa needs Soroye’s scholarship. Plus, the Cavs are already redshirting freshman Sammy Zeglinski and probably, at some point, need to give Calvin Baker a schollie since the walk-on is one of the team’s leading scorers.
Freshman Mike Scott is listed as a “probable starter” in tonight’s game notes, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see Ryan Pettinella in the starting lineup. The senior has really come on of late. Scott got away with starting at the ‘5’ spot against smaller teams, but, at this point, is better suited as a ‘4’ off the bench.
