While watching some of the New York Giants’ Super Bowl parade through Manhattan yesterday—which featured a speech from Giants DE Justin Tuck—I couldn’t help but think of this video with former Virginia basketball player James Johnson that I had on my blog this past summer.
My question: Does Johnson get a Super Bowl ring? Looks to me like he “carried” Tuck through some grueling off-season workouts. That’s a heck of a lot more than some people who receive Super Bowls rings do!
Speaking of Johnson, I just read a story on him by Mark Zeigler (my former co-worker at The San Diego Union-Tribune). Z says Johnson measured 6 feet, 11 inches during his recent San Diego State physical. Johnson was listed at 6-9 when he was at UVa.
The “growth” likely has to do with Johnson’s spondylolisthesis—a condition that is the result of a car accident that he was involved in when he was 3.
Headed over to Virginia baseball Media Day now. Stay tuned for video!
