While the refs didn’t ultimately determine the winner, that was an old school job by the officials. This is what happens when UNC and Duke are in danger of losing a couple at home. I would have bet a mortgage payment that Scott picked up to cheap fouls early in the first half. We were forced to worry about playing with fouls, rather than playing basketball. Admirable job by the Hoos given the situation. And with the the ACC split feed it’s like watching a game in the 80’s. No stats, very few replays, Brando and Gminski never once mentioning it could be a ‘bad call’. Check out this Robbi Pickeral article on ESPN about how UNC benefits from foul calls. Henson averages 2.4 fouls per 40 minutes jumping at every single shot taken near the paint. It’s absurd.

I’ve heard a lot of complaints from Wahoo fans about this. To be honest, our media seats were in such a bad spot that I couldn’t tell if the calls were bogus or not. But even with the foul calls, UVa wasn’t as efficient offensively as you need to be if you want to beat a team like UNC. They missed SO many open shots.

We certainly missed too many open looks, just like Duke and the TO’s at FSU. Of all the things TB has done for us, we still lack that killer instinct against the top tier teams. Hoping as we have some program success that the years of ineptitude can be wiped from our collective conscience (maybe that’s just in my head!). Hate to sound like sour grapes about the UNC game, but it just speaks to a greater problem the ACC has always had. Duke and UNC are protected, and as long as their winning they always will be.
