Virginia, trying to snap a two-game losing streak, is tied with Maryland, 31-31, at the half.
UVa, behind Mike Scott’s 16 first-half points, got off to a great start.
The Cavaliers took a 22-13 lead on a Scott jumper before Maryland—behind three 3-pointers by ACC leading scorer Terrell Stoglin—went on a 13-2 run to take a 26-24 lead at the 3:29 mark.
Freshman Malcolm Brogdon stopped the slide with a 3-pointer to give Virginia a 27-26 lead.
Maryland freshman Nick Faust hit a deep 3-pointer in the final seconds of the stanza to tie things up.
Virginia is shooting 50 percent from the field and has held Maryland to 32 percent.
The difference has been in 3-point shooting. Virginia is just 2 of 4, while Maryland is 7 of 13.
