Virginia went nuts in the second half and downed Maryland, 71-44, to pick up a huge ACC victory.
Mike Scott had 25 points. Malcolm Brogdon added 14.
On its first possession of the second half, Maryland took a 33-31 lead.
But then the Cavaliers (20-6, 7-5), behind Scott, Sammy Zeglinski and Joe Harris, outscored Maryland 16-0 over the next eight-plus minutes to take a 47-33 lead.
Harris started and ended the onslaught with jumpers. In the middle were two hoops from Scott—including a 3-point play—and a jumper by the previously slumping Zeglinski that had the capacity crowd on its feet.
During the spurt, Virginia completely locked Maryland’s offense down. UVa made the Terrapins take tough shots and forced them into four turovers.
It was a stark contrast from the end of the first half when Virginia had let Maryland climb back into the game.

Outstanding!
Anyone else notice that Harris, with one good hand, was as offensively proficient as Z, with two?
TG Brogdon is coming into his own.
That’s 20 now. And counting! Congrats to TB and his Hoos… Sammy, too.
