UVa trails by three at the half

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—Virginia has played well in spurts here in the first half against North Carolina, but trails 35-32 at the break.

A highlight for UVa was when Akil Mitchell drove right around UNC 7-footer Tyler Zeller for a sweet one-handed jam.

Virginia, on the strength of five straight baskets by Mike Scott, took an early 16-9 lead. UNC answered with a 9-0 run to go up 18-16.

Jontel Evans then took over. The UVa guard scored eight straight points in propelling the Wahoos to a 27-20 lead.

UNC answered with a 9-1 lead to take a 29-28 lead.

Scott and Evans lead the way for Virginia with 10 points each. No other UVa player has more than three points.

Zeller leads UNC with 14.

Virginia is in some foul trouble: Scott, Mitchell and Harris have two fouls apiece. Darion Atkins has three.
