Explore Pace’s proposal

I encourage the King family and other Orange County supervisors to carefully explore Mrs. Pace’s environmentally-friendly, world-class resort and recreation complex proposal.

Gibson eager to begin council term

Editor’s note: This letter is reprinted from last week’s edition with the correct name.

County wants to cut? Start at the top

I bet Mr. Rolfe didn’t take a pay cut to help with the county budget. Maybe the board of supervisors should cut Mr. Rolfe’s pay and make his job part-time, see how he likes it.

Outgoing councilman offers thanks

Let’s continue to make Orange the place we can all be proud to call home.

Time to rally behind library

Major donors are being sought and grants pursued, but many of these avenues have been explored already, and the county has indicated that only a massive showing of financial support from the community will permit this much-anticipated library to be built.

More on zoning battle

We feel that Orange citizens should be aware of a series of events which have involved at least three levels of county government (including the board of supervisors), and dragged out over two years, that possibly resulted in the expenditure of taxpayer funds during that period.

Gibson eager to begin council term

Please accept this invitation to join us at the meetings and become involved in the issues concerning our town.

Was everyone treated fairly?

I have stayed out of all this because I have always thought this election “stuff” was a tempest in a teapot, which has gotten more press than the recent murder trials.

Board’s big box approach discouraging

I know one thing for certain. I wouldn’t want at least three board members selling my home.

No pre-election pressuring at D-3 poll

Mr. Burkett alleges that someone “pressured” the ladies. This was far from the truth and there were no witnesses to substantiate his claim.

Disappointed in Goodwin’s response

For an elected official, Supervisor Goodwin, to use the power of his office to imply that my letter defending the character of Marcia Landau, my friend for over a quarter century, is somehow dishonorable, is very wrong on his part.

Launching the new world order

Wake up America!

County rec stance disappointing

As parents of children involved in Orange County Parks and Recreation activities we were dismayed to read that sports, childcare activities and recreational options are viewed by the county board and Mr. Rolfe as an unnecessary drain on the county budget.

Election activities unsettling

They were a shameless affront to our citizenry by bringing into our political system something less than honest campaigning by those reportedly desiring our county to remain “rural.”

A missed recycling opportunity

We must begin thinking about how our actions, however small, affect the health of our planet.

The Marcia Landau I know…

This is a patriot, not someone who disrespects the rule of law.

Disappointed in board’s decision

The aphorism regarding putting lipstick on a pig comes to mind as I think of the apparent Bledsoe/Carter objective in this situation.

Donkeys have been used for work for years

I mean come on people!

Don’t judge teen too harshly

Yes, many people were frightened by the lock-down and that should not be overlooked, but we should be thankful that our schools are safe.

It takes more than promises

This sounds good! It is what we want to hear. We want to believe it but unfortunately people who make these kinds of “commitments” cannot really keep them.
There are many factors that contribute to this situation, not the least of which are the rising costs of fuel, food, supplies, construction materials, and running governmental entities, like the towns and the county.

Last week’s editorial awful

Your editorial was uninformed and biased. Beneath most animal “sports” and events is a dark underworld of which most people are unaware.

Tips from TRIAD

Spring is here, so be careful of con artists who prey on homeowners, especially senior citizens.

No mention of Tech anniversary

This saddens me greatly that nothing whatsoever was mentioned about the Virginia Tech tragedy in last week’s newspaper.

Suggestion for spending stimulus

This bonanza also offers each of us the opportunity to save the life of an unfortunate and deserving member of our community: an unfortunate dog or cat in need of urgent veterinary care

Disappointed by cold shoulder

I was astonished when there were a few girls who visibly refused to help wash my car with their group because of a political bumper sticker on my car.

Did I miss something at donkey basketball?

What I saw was a well-organized family event that was very funny for all ages! What I did not see was animal cruelty or lack of respect!

What’s different about donkeys?

The letters to the editor referencing cruelty to the donkeys in the recent donkey basketball game held at the Orange County High School Fieldhouse is somewhat concerning.

Supervisors come to meetings with minds made up

The citizens of the county need to get more involved and let the board of supervisors know how they feel about the issues.

Board’s comments about Boosters distasteful

Are your facts right, Mr. Johnson?

Wake up America! Loved ones are dying

In this real world that I live in, and given the nasty reputation for violence this country has acquired in the past, I fear for the safety of both Senator Clinton and Senator Obama, should either one of these presidential aspirants somehow win the presidential race in November.
