The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released state-level, division-level, and school-level cohort reports that detail outcomes for students who entered the ninth grade for the first time in 2007 and were scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2011. High school cohort reports for schools, school divisions, and the Commonwealth are available for viewing and downloading in the Virginia School

Report Card section of the VDOE Web site: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/statistics_reports/graduation_completion/cohort_reports/index.shtml.

Fluvanna’s on-time graduation rate increased from 90.6 percent in 2010 to 93.3 percent in 2011 and is higher than the state’s rate at 86.6 percent. In the surrounding area, Fluvanna had the highest graduation rate. The county’s dropout rate at 2.68 percent, down from 5.2 percent in 2010, is also lower than the state’s average of 7.2 percent. According to the figures released Tuesday by the Virginia Department of Education, Fluvanna’s 2011 dropout rate is the second lowest in the area.

Only Orange had a lower dropout rate. This is the lowest dropout rate recorded by Fluvanna since the state began computing the on-time graduation rate four years ago.

The state’s report disaggregates the graduation and dropout data to reflect student subgroups in the 2007 cohort. Fluvanna’s student subgroups of black, white, and disadvantaged students (those eligible for free or reduced lunch programs) exceeded the state’s subgroups for graduation and reflected fewer dropouts.
