Get buildings inspected

Published: October 26, 2011

Because of the recent earthquake and the aftershocks that followed, it is recommended that all fuel fired appliances and their venting systems be inspected by a qualified service technician. Unseen cracks in masonry chimney and flue linings can easily result in a fire. Metal flues should also be checked for damage and separation between flue sections.  This can result in a fire and the release of dangerous carbon monoxide into the home.  The gas supply lines should be checked as well. Even if no damage is found it is always recommended to have appliances serviced and the venting systems cleaned on a regular basis, generally each year depending on how often the appliance is used. If you have any questions, contact the Fluvanna County Building Inspections Office at (434) 591-1935.
