Mulch Donated to Scottsville Published: April 27, 2011 By Wendy Edwards A local mulch company’s bid to beautify the town of Scottsville’s levee walk has roused an interest to make more touch ups along the river town’s major walkways. Eddie Patterson, owner of Monticello Mulch in Palmyra says the extra effort put forth by his company will be of no cost to the town of Scottsville. “We are donating everything: time and materials,” Monticello Mulch’s owner says. “We’re going to do all the mulch beds up and down valley street and at Canal Basin Square - all the little mulch beds down through there.” Like many small towns in America, Scottsville’s doing its best to survive a sluggish economy. “Scottsville’s been hit very hard,” Patterson says. “Businesses kind of move in and out, they’ve lost the rubber plant down there - they’ve taken a beaten lately.” Affection for the small town has grown over the years Patterson’s mother and father have lived in Scottsville and, what’s more, he and his family visit each Fourth of July for the annual parade. This token of appreciation from Monticello Mulch will accompany what Patterson feels is a fine job of keeping Scottsville clean and nice-looking. His father, Pete, says he is proud of his son’s generosity. “It’ll help the town out and make it a little better,” he says. “I like to walk downtown all the time. I know a lot of people down here.” Soon 20-25 yards of mulch will make its way to the sidewalks on Valley Street and then fill in around the exhibits at Canal Basin Square. While Patterson had hoped to finish the job before the Easter holiday, he more expects the volunteer work will be completed this week. (0) Comments • Email This Article |
