“Taxpayers Talk With Gena Keller” will feature Fluvanna’s new school superintendent tackling the topics on taxpayers’ minds on Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fluvanna Library on Route 53. The meeting, hosted by the Fluvanna Taxpayers Association, is open to the public.
Recently making news was the announcement that the school system will hire its first finance director. Keller will talk about why that decision was made and what changes to expect. She also will give an update on the status of the Domino Plan, preview some of the fiscal decisions confronting school leaders as budget season gets under way, and discuss how she hopes to deliver more educational bang for the taxpayer’s buck.
Fluvanna taxpayers also will get the chance to talk, in turn, to the new school superintendent in a question-and-answer session.
“I am looking forward to meeting with taxpayers and the FTA and having an opportunity to hear their questions and concerns,” says Keller.
The school system represents about 65 percent of the county’s budget and the largest portion of its spending on capital projects. “No other county expense has a bigger impact on tax bills,” says FTA Chair Elizabeth Franklin. “That’s why this is a great opportunity for taxpayers to meet with the new superintendent, hear her ideas and share what’s on their minds.”
The Fluvanna Taxpayers Association is a nonpartisan organization focused on the impact of county policies and decisions on residents’ tax bills.
