Video by the Lake Has New Home Published: March 02, 2011 More than eight years ago, Video by the Lake was the second business to open in The Jefferson Centre on Turkeysag Trail just across from the Food Lion. But if you have driven by the Jefferson Centre since December you may wonder where it has gone. Video by the Lake is now located across the street in the Gate Plaza shopping center. The Wills family, who owns and operates Video by the Lake, moved the operation due to many reasons: the cost of leasing their old space as well square footage being two major factors. “We were looking at another rent increase likely for this year and since the economy dropped a couple years ago, our costs have increased not decreased,” said Jonathan Wills, owner of Video by the Lake. “We had three options for the business: one was to close, which we couldn’t do because this is our income; two, increase our prices, which I was not going to do to our customers; and three was to move—so that’s what we did.” Wills said he looked at many different locations around the Lake, since many of his customers live there, as well as it being a convenient location for customers from throughout the county. After looking at the space available in The Gate Plaza, Wills said he knew it would be an ideal location for all residents. “The owners of the plaza were great helping us to get into the location the Saturday after Thanksgiving and have been very supportive, not only of our business but the other businesses here in the plaza,” stated Wills. “I do miss the other business owners and employees from the previous location, but many of them stop by and see us and of course we visit them.” The new location is beside SALON DeSHANO, across from Marisella’s restaurant and nearby Kraft Appliance, Lake Emporium, Dr. Lauterbach, Happy Tails and The Jefferson Pharmacy. The new neighbors have called Video by the Lake “a perfect fit.” The new location offers customers 150 more square feet to browse for movies and with the added space, Video by the Lake has separated its older titles into categories for easy access. Two new services have been added at the new location. Video by the Lake is now the Palmyra authorized retailer for n-Telos Wireless and is able to offer new and upgraded services, as well as one year and pre-paid plans. In addition, n-Telos bills can now be paid right at the store, through Qpay, a company that processes utility payments through convenient locations. Video by the Lake can accept utility payments from cell phone payments to home phone payments and water and power payments. Two advantages to using the service include not waiting for a check to clear and being able to pay with cash rather than credit or debit card. There is a small service fee, but most fees are the same price or less than the company charges their customers when they call in to make a payment. Additionally, U-Haul is back in Palmyra after several months. “Due to some negative reaction of a few drivers passing the trucks parked in the Jefferson Centre lot, we had to give up the rentals,” said Wills. “But now, with the support of U-Haul, the landlord and a local businessman, we have been able to bring it back to the county.” U-Haul is the number one moving equipment rental company in the United States and the only company that offers trailer rentals to their customers. by Jon of Palmyra Apr. 1, 2011, 08:08 PM I would like to know what the comment by surf clothing has to do with this article. This article is about a local buisness and what local businesses have to offer the local community. Yes you have a choice to buy on-line and most big box stores offer the same and more on-line then in store. But if you talk with any locally owned buinsess they will order or send you to a local buinsess that may have what your looking for. At the sametime if you buy from a locally owned and operated business then for every $100.00 spent there at that business, $68.00 of that goes back to the county or city in some way from taxes to wages to donations. If you shop at a local big box store and spend the same amount then $43.00 of that goes back to the county or city. Shopping on-line sends no money what so ever back to the county or city that you live in. So yes you may purchase on-line but your not helping your neighbor or county/city out in anyway and a good chance your taxes will going up because your local buiness owners will have to close and there will be no tax revenue coming in to the county or city.
