Effort Baptist Chooses Sylvia Burns Endowment Fund Recipents Published: November 23, 2011 Two children at Effort Christian School and Preschool have been chosen as recipients of the Sylvia Burns Endowment Fund. Sylvia Burns was a school guidance counselor who loved children and valued education. The Sylvia Burns Endowment Fund was created to provide scholarships to two children attending Effort Christian School and Preschool in grades kindergarten and above. Evie Benson and Kaden Kardell have been selected as recipients for the 2011-12 school year. The awards were based upon each child’s Christian testimony, work ethic and the values of citizenship exhibited. Evie is the daughter of James and Leslie Benson. She is the granddaughter of James and Margaret Benson, Bob and Mildred Shumake, and the late Allen T. Davis, Jr. Evie is a second-grader in Ms. Holyfield’s class. Kaden is the daughter Danielle Kardell and Clifton Smith. She is the granddaughter of David and Virginia Kardell and Robert Smith. Kaden is a third-grader in Ms. Holyfield’s class.
