The Fluvanna County 8U All Star baseball team won the state title earlier this month. They also made it to the U.S. regional semi-final game. The youngsters, coached by AJ Bowman, Mike Shields and Mike Algieri, have been together since only June 7.

The boys participated in the Virginia state tournament with teams from Manassas, Glen Allen, Northeast Augusta, Summit Point, Arlington, Williamsburg and Fauquier. They beat everyone they faced over the July 4th weekend and played Glen Allen in the State Championship game they won 15-5.

The Fluvanna All Stars took their winning ways all the way to South Eastern Regional Cal Ripken Tournament in Winterville, N.C., where they played teams from all over the south east.

The Fluvanna 8U All Stars started off on Thursday July 15 with a 9 to 8 loss to Jacksonville, FL. It was a tough loss as it was their first together as a team, but they came back with a 14 to 4 mercy win over Gadsen, AL. Friday they opened up with a win against Southern Pitt, N.C. 17 to 3 and then another win over Indian Trail, N.C. 15 to 9.

Saturday the weather was not on their side as the game started but got postponed with the Flucos up 5 to 3 against Davison County, N.C. The All Stars were the home team and the had two outs with a man on second and third, Sunday morning as they resumed the game with the Flucos coming out on top 7 to 5.

This brought the All Stars into the semi-final game against West Raleigh, N.C. This was a tough loss for them, and the boys played awesome defense, but a few got by and they let them score two runs in the top of the 6th inning. Fluvanna had man on second with two outs and had a pop up to end the game with the score West Raleigh 4, Fluvanna 3.

Great job by all the coaches AJ Bowman, Mike Shields, and Mike Algieri and, of course, the players from Kevin Ward, Andrew Ward (game 6 MVP), Kyle Algieri (game 2 MVP), Cameron Shields, Ryan Groome, Brandon Lucus (game 5 MVP), Toby Sherman, Justin Warner (game 3 MVP), Eli Bowman, Chris Dudley, Drew Pace (game 4 MVP), Trace Reuschling (game 1 MVP) and Dreu Hackenberg to have put Fluvanna baseball in the spotlight for Cal Ripken baseball. Final All Star Record for 2010: 22 and 2.

The team and families would like to thank everyone in the community for all the support given to them.
